Working in the Same Space

This workshop will expose participants to the different motivations and organizational cultures of the various S&R actors and promote cross-community relationship building.

Description:
The workshop will emphasize cross-community understanding, communication and negotiation skills that focus on ways in which civilian governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, inter-governmental organizations and the armed forces can work more effectively alongside each other in insecure environments.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will:

  • Enhance their understanding of and professional network among the other stabilization and response communities;
  • Improve their cross-community and inter-organizational communication skills;
  • Expand their understanding and repertoire of negotiation/mediation skills and strategies;
  • Develop their capacity to build trust, identify shared objectives, and promote collaboration.


Methodology:
The workshop will consist of a series of facilitated discussions, panel presentations and role-playing exercises to meet the learning objectives. Additionally, a reception and group meals will support the networking objective.

Participants:
Approximately 45 representatives from civilian government agencies, non-governmental organizations, inter-governmental organizations and the armed forces will attend. Participants should be junior to mid-level representatives from their communities with experience working in the field and/or in policy-advisory positions.

Faculty:
CSRS staff will facilitate this program. Other instructors, including Susan Hocevar of the Naval Postgraduate School will deliver educational modules.
