best practices in job creation programs.

Description:
Economic recovery following conflict or disaster can be an extremely difficult challenge,
yet it is a critical aspect of a country's ability to attain stability and lasting peace
by enhancing livelihoods. This program will explore the challenges of economic recovery
in difficult environments, be they post-conflict or post-disaster. Best practices in use
by the various response communities will be discussed and evaluated for their applicability
in a variety of situations.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the workshop participants will:
- Develop a deeper knowledge of post-conflict economic forces that influence
stability and job creation.
- Explore ways of promoting job creation and economic development in countries
recently emerging from armed conflict.
- Enhance their understanding of and professional network among the other communities
involved in post-conflict reconstruction operations.
Methodology:
The workshop will consist of a series of facilitated discussions, panel presentations
and small working groups to meet the learning objectives. Additionally, a reception
and group meals will support the networking objective.
Participants:
Approximately 45 representatives from civilian government agencies, non-governmental
organizations, inter-governmental organizations and the armed forces will attend.
Participants should be junior to mid-level representatives from their communities
with experience working in the field and/or in policy-advisory positions.
Faculty:
CSRS staff and other faculty will facilitate this program.
